Hi guys, I need to replace my windshield...looking for recommendations in the greater Sacramento area.

Thanks!

Hi guys, I need to replace my windshield...looking for recommendations in the greater Sacramento area.
Call your local Lexus dealer and see who does their glass replacement.

If you're looking at a general windshield shop, make sure they bring Toyota closed-end pop rivets, and the moldings that need replacement on each side. Also a good idea to use a new rubber gasket at the front of the plastic cowl cover that surrounds the wiper blade drives...hard to remove without breaking a locking 'tit' or two.

If they sound baffled, find another shop.

Safelite here in Boise had no clue.

Thanks for the suggestions. This will be the second time the glass will be replaced. It was never the same after the first one, so maybe some of the squeaks and rattles will go away. fingers crossed! I figured with my roof rack and AT tires I was going to have a lot of cabin noise.

I will call the dealer and go from there.

Check with Kidwells Glass on Hazel. They did a good job replacing glass on my Suburban.

Hayes Brothers is a good old-school glass shop, in the downtown area. They did a good job replacing the windshield in my old '91 pickup.

I've used Hayes a few times over the years. Just be sure to spec OEM replacement wherever you go.
I have had bad experiences with Safelite. Really bad.

It's a difficult replacement no matter who does it. Pick a well known reputable place that will come back out several times to fix it. I was worried that a local place would come out the first time, but would not want to return if there was an issue. The place that does the Toyota work here didn't return my calls, Toyota keeps them busy enough they don't need outside work.

I went with Safelitte because they are a big company and stand behind their work. They did have to come out 3 times before solving wind noise issues. First guy was in his 20's, second guy in his 40's, third guys was close to 60. He was the old time pro. Ask ahead of time for a seasoned vet to do the install. I had mine done at work so I could come out and check progress.

Cost was less than $300, OEM would have been $1400.

Make sure to get the same color glass as the side windows, a mismatch will drive you crazy. Apparently there is a lot more amber out there for the LC than green. Also do a water test afterwards by the VIN numbers, that's were the leak will happen with a bad install. It'll be all over the inside footwell.

I used Precision Auto glass. I got their coupon in the coupon pak mailers..
Cost me $204 total without involving insurance.
Looks good, clean install, and no leaks yet. So far so good!

Why not just have a claim filed for your insurance. I have full glass covered at Safeco, is there a specific reason I can't just have the insurance take the bill? (Isn't that why I also pay for full glass coverage)?

The cost of the entire job was less than my deductible. So no point in filing a claim etc

Just had my glass replaced in my 100. I called all around Sacramento and no one really new about the rivets. I recently changed mechanics and they recommended On the Go Auto Glass out of citrus heights. These guys were awesome. He does windshield replacement for the Lexus dealer in Roseville, so they know all about Land Cruisers and the rivets. I had wet PS carpet and wind noise in with the storms in March, come to find out whoever did the prior windshield filled the rivet holes with glue. These guys also fixed my PS window which was loose in the tracks. Total cost $260.

Thad is the owner and he does the install

I have no affiliation just really happy with their work and thought this would help anyone searching in the future.
