RW vs ICON wheels

IIRC TRD Forged is about 27# and RW 24#

And agreed on spacers. But if tire size will stay in the 285/70/17 range +50 works great and keeps all the mud in the wheel wells. I went back and forth on whether to run /75 but eventually settled on /70 being a good balance. Plus that is what the Dakar 200 runs.. clearly it can handle some varying terrain.

Buried somewhere in here is discussion on the BBS wheel weight. Note that someone measures it early in the thread and seems to have a bad scale.

This is why im definitely going to go to a higher offset next time and a larger wheel. I am barely within mud flaps seeing too much splashing and also starting to hate cleaning my wheels. Even the tiniest wheel woolie is a struggle to really detail with. The 17s clear hubs and calipers fine, but barely on a 2017.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to get back towards a more neutral scrub although the width stabilizes this platform very well.

The factory look of most toyotas is very ugly though. Seeing a huge fat 200 with a 3" fender gap is very odd looking at +54-60 OEM.

I agree, but I assumed it was a function-over-form decision.

Also, if you like the rebounds, but don't love the fake bead lock look, check out the new ICON Vector 5. Same specs, no fake beadlock. I think these are moving into first choice for me.

Patiently waiting my Bronze Vector 5's for my Silver LX... have 35's I am itching to mount up. Shop is saying Icon should be shipping new orders Sept 19th.

Why does everyone seem to endorse wheel spacers? They aren’t necessary for RW wheels, they add a failure point, and what can worse than having tires extend outside your fender flares when in dirt?

But... but... stance, brah!

On a more serious note, spacers have their uses, but I'm in the camp of avoiding them if possible.

the owner in this thread doesn't answer the question about the wheels being 17" or 18".... consensus being it is a 17"?

I cant really tell, but it looks like 18s. I would personally go with 18s myself, despite having 17s currently.

Discount called Icon and they confirmed that there is not an 18" Icon Vector 5 available for a Land Cruiser, which must be why you see so many people running 17" Icon wheels...

Anyone beg to differ? I like the Vector enough to switch to 17"....

I run spacers with the stock wheels and I hate it but until I lift it and go with some bigger meats they are a necessity IMHO. I hate how tucked the stock wheels are, it looks silly with the girth of these vehicles.

I’ve wondered that myself @Itsky and think @eatSleepWoof is probably correct.

Personally, larger tires or fender gap aren’t good enough reasons for me to introduce the handling, wear, and reliability issues spacers bring with them. But clearly many people disagree.

They look great but a bit heavy for a 17" @ 30 lbs. My 17s are 23.6 lbs if i recall.

Here is my 2008, “Pancho”

Current tire is 285/65/18

I wish I had photoshop to see what the 17” Vectors would look like, LOL

Also im speaking from experience the only way to get real black is gloss. Satin always comes out grey and gets more great as they get dusty.
My wheels usually look body matched lol.

I ran spacers on my first new 2008 LC for 100k miles on OME setup and 33” tires(OEM wheels)without any issues. That 200 is living out its life in Telluride with another member. I’m pretty sure he’s still using the spacers. I never used it for hardcore off-road and he’s a backcountry photographer using mostly fire roads and typical medium rated Colorado trails like I did. I do agree, I’ve heard they aren’t the best thing to add to your vehicle for the downsides you mentioned. I prefer a 1” poke outside the fender well. That being said, I never had rocks kick up on the body paint. Would I do spacers again…no. We have many great options for offset wheels that wasn’t available back then.

Do you have any pics of your old cruiser with the 33’s and spacers?
