Good evening,

I recently got a code 28 on my 1993 FZJ80 and I'm trying to replace the O2 Sensors with NTK

It's a really tight space and rusted and I'm afraid I'm going to round them off. I believe it should be a 12, but I can get an 11 and even a 10 on partly. Hammering is not possible because of the tight space. Should I remove the part of the exhaust first and then try to remove the O2s from there? The exhaust bolts are pretty crusty as well

Any tips appreciated, thank you!

Here are some pics

You need this.

Start with a 12mm, that is what the original nuts are. If a 12mm doesn’t work go to an 11mm.

I would buy a quality one, the Harbor Freight kit I have is nearly worthless. I just picked up a nice SnapOn 12mm the other day because I have the same issue on the front O2 on my 95.

If it is totally screwed, cut the studs off and use u-bolts to hold the new O2 in place until you can deal with it and the exhaust properly.

Cheers

Those really don’t look too dang bad. They will come out. It is a bitch to get a wrench or ratchet on them, but it is doable. I used extractor sockets and a flex head ratchet.

Recently did both in my 95. Mapp gas and a small vise grip did it for me. Took around an hour to do the two of them. I dunno why people are afraid to use heat. I live in the northeast and have never broken a bolt. Mapp gas is your friend

Thanks for all the advice, I was able to get them off after a few hours of pain

No more check engine light! Only other difference I noticed was it instantly went to 800 rpm or whatever the standard idle is with AC on, instead of running at like 1300 rpm for a minute like before

Old vs new nuts

Didn’t need heat, didn’t need vise grips either. All it took was the proper tool and 40-50ftlbs and off they came.

Cheers
