New to me LC 100 2001 117k and I noticed a small rust spot on rear quarter panel under curve heading into bumper. What is the best course of action here?

Don't walk, run away from that truck. Sell it immediately.

That's what everyone else will say. I live in CT and you can't stop rust up here. This is what I have getting fixed at the moment.

Well that and all of the necessary work to go along with it on the rear. Surprisingly the front looks nowhere near as bad.

Ha! Totally hear you. Mine was a single NH owner. Bottom definitely shows it lived in the NE, but its still in good condition for a 14 year old vehicle. For the price, I can do a lot of fixing...

I just figured i'd try to stop this cosmetic area before it spreads. Doesn't even need to be perfect given the location. Probably grind some back, put some POR on it in, then paint.

See where the water is coming from that's causing it - do you have a leak on the inside that's allowing water to settle inside that panel? It also looks like maybe the truck got lightly rear ended and flexed that panel enough to crack the paint, allowing water in.

Best - grind, cut, or whatever to remove the rust. Minimal - encapsulate it with something like POR15.

Wondering if maybe a leak in the tailight. I agree, the bumper does look nudged in as well, but no other signs of damage.

I bet your LC was used to drop a boat in the salt water then!

With regards to the original post... that looks like no big deal. POR15 and a bit of paint are probably a great fix... Pay a pro if you can't paint, or really care a lot about blending correctly.

Thanks, definitely not worried about it. Given the location, I'm pretty sure i can do a good enough job myself to square it up. Appreciate all the feedback.

Be sure to check the backside and down below. I just tore into my rear quarter lower down, don't know if you saw this but it may shed some light: Rocker Rust Repair Options?

Yours looks like it could have been a minor bumper hit that was covered with filler and that repair is now starting to fail.

I would pull the signals and the jack compartment stuff and see what you can see from the inside.

Agreed, it looks like a crack from a previous repair. If you do grind it out and get rid of all the rust, but have a small hole left to deal with, you can use fiberglass filler to repair it. Its like "bondo" but the fiberglass filler is waterproof and won't bubble up like regular filler.
