Running board reinforcements (1 Viewer)

I have a new tub for my '77 as well as new OEM running boards. The tub has no holes for the running boards. Before I drill or paint, is there any reinforcement I should do to the body (seems weak)? Is there any alternative mounting? I was thinking of coming up with my own sliders that would bolt to the frame, not the body. Somehow I would incorporate the OEM running boards (I'm trying to stay close to stock).
