I removed the 'OEM' Warns and installed solid axle minitruck Aisin hubs on my '78 FJ40 and I have been running them without the snap ring. I don't wheel is super hard - any likely problems from this? I presume the birfield rubs on the inside of the axle 'bell', right? Any other wear or strength issues?

Reference pix here - same situation: Wanted - Asco or Aisin short body hubs

Do you have room to install snap rings? Or are yours like the pic in your link? The axle stubs in the link have threaded hole in them and can be kept from backing into the knuckle by installing a washer and bolt, a la IFS mini hubs.

I have no room to install a snap ring, due to this hub being different. I don't recall if it's drilled.

But, it sounds like I can use a bolt and washer to accomplish what the snap ring would otherwise be doing.

I will check it out and see. Thanks!
