Run in factory paint? (1 Viewer)

No way that would leave the factory. Have it looked at, but realize no 14 year old LC's or LX's (or any car) will have perfect paint.

Keep in mind, just because a Carfax is clean doesn't mean repairs haven't been done. Usually, if an owner pays out of pocket they're not recorded.

Even if it was an insurance incident. I ran a CARFAX on my own vehicle one time and there was NO record of the almost $5,000 repair to the right rear corner when Mrs. Flintknapper hydroplaned our 80 series off the highway and into a tree.

No mention of the repair we had done when a deer ran into the side of it either. About 3K that time. Big long crease down the passenger side door and damaged fender flare.

So DON'T count on CARFAX.

My friend bought a limited 2001 4runner with a clear title and carfax... upon inspection, the front radiator support has been replaced.

The truck had a paint job done at the door (or worst all around).

I believe toyota is still the best compared to Lexus. Lexus is all about luxury, leather and wooden trim... I am a person who loves the reliability of a car 99% and toyota made it happen in all 3 toyotas I own. I notice not many old lexus cars/trucks on the road compared to old toyota cars/trucks.

Having owned many Lexus (lexuses?) and Toyotas (and a Scion), I would like to chime in on your comments above. The reason you don't see as many old Lexus on the road -vs- toyotas, is that there are so few lexus sold in comparison to toyotas. (I don't have exact figures, but would guess that for every 100 toyotas sold, there is one lexus sold). However my educated guess is that there is a larger percentage of Lexus still on the road after 20 years than there are toyotas.

My experience with the Lexus brand is that they are the most reliable and well engineered vehicles on the road - period. While many may argue that the german luxury vehicles have better performance, more luxury features, better handling, etc... the fact is that the German vehicles require very extensive (and outrageously expensive) maintenance to continue to perform well past 100,000 miles. My oldest Lexus (2001 GS) is well above 200K and is still one of the best riding and running vehicles I own (while requiring nothing more than routine maintenance over the years.)

Most of the Lexus lineup of vehicles do not share a common platform with Toyota (at least in the US---the LX and ES being the exceptions in the US) but a majority of the parts are shared with toyota.

My comments should not be considered a knock against Toyota -- after all, Lexus are Toyotas, which just happen to have a few extra frills (and soundproofing, and electronic goodies...)

As far as the LX -vs- LC debate, there are only minor differences in the two- leather headliner, headlights/grill, and the extra soundproofing /door gaskets. Get the lowest mileage / best maintained /newest LX or LC example you can afford.

Finally - I have never seen a new Lexus or Toyota with a paint run...
