We are Rugged Bound Supply Co. based in Houston, TX. We are the importers and distributors of Big Country 4x4 gear from South Africa. Big Country 4x4 have been around for about 18 years and their racks have been around for even longer - back to the early 1990's. Known in South Africa for rugged, no-nonsense off-road gear with no compromises, we are proud to bring their products to the US market. Some of their products have been direct-imported at great expense by many 79 series owners in the US, as well as their free-standing designed 270 Ostrich Wing Awning which was the first free standing 270 back in 2008 and still going strong in SA and Australia. We are excited to offer a small but growing portion of their vast range of products from our Houston-based inventory to the entire US.

To celebrate our MUD launch, we are going to be offering a deep discount, limited quantity group buy in each tech section on MUD to coincide with our next shipment leaving Q1 2021:
welded aluminum racks, gull wing windows and drawer systems.

Find us at www.ruggedbound.com, Instagram & Facebook: @RuggedBound.
Our brick and mortar storefront home is planned in Rosenberg, TX for Q2/3 2021 (thanks, Covid).

Some basic info on the Big Country 4x4 gear, what makes it different?

Racks: (LC79, 60, 80, 100, 200, GX460, 470, FJ Cruiser) (4Runner Gen5 launching soon)
  • Fully welded, heavy duty aluminum platform (1/8" thick custom designed extrusions), customized for each vehicle with corresponding A, B and C pillar supports
  • All-OEM fitment - no drilling (exception: 4Runner front foot and other vehicles with no gutter & no OEM holes)
  • No rivet nuts. Ever.
  • Flat platform design with optional bolt-on basket. No-lip profile (ideal for tents)
  • M8 hardware compatible tracks all over the rack, including below the perimeter extrusion
  • Yes, we have a bottle opener. But also a Hi-Lift, Spade, Axe, Jerry cans and spare wheel clamps. But also bottle openers... two kinds.
  • Dynamic load rating 530lbs for 3-leg pair racks 700lbs for 4-leg pair racks i.e. more than most roof ratings.
  • Ships by road freight (group buy price will include free road freight to lower 48, terminal pickup only. Residential delivery available at an extra charge)
Drawers: (LC79, 80, 100, 200, GX460, 470, FJ Cruiser) (4Runner Gen5 launching soon)
  • Big Country 4x4 Savute drawers are made for a specific vehicle, and only that specific vehicle.
  • No drilling. Bolt-on mild steel brackets affix to OEM holes. No turnbuckles. Ever.
  • As a result of the model-specific designs their drawers are often up to 50% larger inside than others on the market, while being slightly lower profile in most cases.
  • Made from galvanized steel, aluminum trim and engineered wood deck, model-specific wing side cover kits and automotive carpeting.
  • Comes with removable heavy duty steel load bins ideal for muddy recovery gear or packing convenience
Gull Wings: (LC 80, 100, GX470) (LC 200 & GX 460 in the works..)
  • Big Country 4x4 Gul Wings have been around for about 15 years, starting with the 80 series Land Cruisers. Their design is not for everyone: these are heavy duty doors, not window seal inserts.
  • They do require drilling because they are hinged to the vehicle, not inside the window frame rubber.
  • Made from 2 layers of heavy-duty aluminum sheeting welded together, laser cut and formed to fit the vehicle perfectly. These doors are bolted to a custom extruded heavy-duty track, 3/16 – ¼” wall thickness via 3 stainless steel hinges.
  • Dustproof, waterproof, lockable, and made to do a job.
  • These are not sleek. They are Mad Max..
Please follow us on IG and let us know what products you want to see next. Keep an eye on the tech forums for your vehicle - we will be posting the group-buy details in a few days with all the pricing, discount and timing details.

Thanks for sticking to the long read!

Cheers,
Theo Ferreira

There doesn’t seem to be any way to contact you on your website...no phone number, no email, nothing.
I don’t do facetwit, so I hope that’s not your only means of communication.
I‘ve sent you a query on this site’s PM system...please respond.
Thank you

We are back! (sort of). Sorry for the delay in response - we have been without power since Monday 5am and no running water - my focus has been on the 5 kids in our house when the power did come back on for a few hours.

Apologies to all those who have no heard back from me via email etc.

I will be sending out balance invoices today (as far as I can get before we get cut off again) and once done I will work through the emails and requests that have come in over the weekend who I have not yet responded to.

Build update: we are on course for completing everything by March 5th, in time for loading on the March 15th vessel arriving Houston April 15-18 (reminder - boat timings can occur - current 1st US port of call is Houston, that may change to Louisiana without notice, adding several days to the ETA)

Sorry for the delayed response - we have some power today so I first need to work through the invoices I must get out to all the group buyers, and after that I will be working through the requests of the past weekend. Thank you in advance for understanding the situation we are dealing with in Houston, we promise to get back to you as soon as we can.

Sorry for your situation with the winter storm...I completely missed that you are in Houston, heard you got hit hard. Now I feel like a schmuck 😂.
I‘d like to get an order in to you ASAP, hopefully in time to make the boat.
When you can, please reach out and maybe we can put it together.
Best,
J
