OK you kings and queens of restoration does anyone know where I can buy a complete (brand new) rubber kit for my BJ42 in Australia. I am chasing all doors, windows, roof, bonnet and everything in between so that when I start the rebuild I can replace it all. Thanks in advance.

I believe, in the states, most of the late model weather stripping is still available from Toyota (albeit pricey). I think the early door weather stripping and some of the other pre-1975 rubber is extinct, but I think most post 75 rubber is still available. It has been discussed a little in this thread, complete with several part numbers, and some discussion of alternatives:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj40-weatherstripping-guide.734769/

Can't be of more help for Australia, specifically, but I'd start with your friendly local Toyota Dealer!

I have also heard that Cool Cruiser of Texas weather stripping does not fit right - I'm not sure they ship down under, but I'd avoid their product if possible.

Thanks for the info.

x2 on Toyota for weather stripping. May be a bit pricey, but you do get what you pay for and OEM usually fits right!

I rang Toyota in Cairns today and they are going to see what they can find. Will let you all know when I find out.

I replaced all of the rubber in my FJ40 (except under the fiberglass cap). I think that I was about $2000 into it all by the time that I was done.

Here's my advice....This is not one stop shopping.

1) Research Spectors drawings for all of the descriptions of what you need.

2) CDan should be your first stop....he will be able to get you what is still available from Toyota.

3) For the stuff that you cannot get from Toyota. Check the other vendors like cruiser corps...you will be able to find the smaller pieces through them.

COPY AND PASTE! Thanks Doc

I dont know if they do here or not. What sort of discount do you get over there.

I used toyota for all doors and aftermarket for all hard top stuff. I am extremely happy. You dont want to mess around with aftermarket on the doors. There are far too many intricate turns.

I would make friends with a toyota parts guy locally or use one of the forum guys.

Enough to make it worth getting someone here to receive it and ship it to you. 25% is not unheard of from some mud members who work for Toyota.

Don't right off Rare Spares right there in Queensland Ken.

Sure their door rubber is "more substantial" than OEM but if you use your cruiser a lot that'll actually mean it'll last longer without causing annoying door rattles and door squeaks (even though the doors might sit a little proud for 10 years and require a good slam to shut).

See my door rebuild thread:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/tackling-the-doors.370889/

And if you get stuff from the states without going through an intermediary person, then Cruiser Corps served me well. (Companies like CCOT and SOR are bound to make payment difficult and have stupendous shipping charges). My experience as a kiwi in a far off land is that they will supply genuine Toyota (and even some parts not listed on their website) and are extremely helpful in all respects.

Thanks guys will check them all out. Lostmarbles I have been looking at Rare Spares and their seals look pretty good. I think I was quoted $600.00 for a full kit.

Got the kit Kylie but haven't fitted anything yet. It is not a complete kit as it does not have the rubbers for the rear ambulance doors or the curved windows in the back. Also no seals for the kick vents.
