Those of you running RTTs--are you concerned about a few inches of overhang beyond the roof rack--especially on the sides--or is that no big deal? (I mean it's either RIGHT to the edge, or a few inches over on both sides.)

What's your on/off procedure, in or (if it won't fit) out of the garage?

I didn’t like the asthetics of a rtt overhanging on my rack but it didn’t harm anything. Took the rack off to take off the tent found it to hard to take tent off the rack due to mounting location. (CVT Baker by the way).

I like my Freespirt that mounts directly to gutter mounts and doesn’t overhang more

(Excuse the different wheels and tires trying to figure out what tires to get next )

What would be the concern? As long as it's symmetric on both sides then the center of gravity is right in the middle. Unless it extends a foot and you start hitting things ;)

If your planing to run trails then the threat of damage is real, if you’re just going to the mall shouldn’t be a problem 🤷‍♂️

@Andrew Bluemel what free sprit tent is that that you have? Looks like it doesn’t sit higher then the bowfin rack?

A bit is fine. Its just a learning cure you have to deal with on trail running. I have snorkel and awning to contend. Just pay close attention.

As far as off, I drive into my barn and lift to rafters with to straps.

Lucky you! I seriously need a house with a barn. Or a barn with a house. One of those...

I have the Rhino rack Pioneer Platform rack. the tent doesn't overhang( but the awning sticks out a mile) when i need it off i just take the whole rack off. awning, tent and rack all in one shot and put it in the shop on sawhorses.

My old JB XXL was 64” wide and then I had an awning extend beyond that. It was a huge tent and definitely extended beyond the sides but it’s what I ran for a year or so. Hit plenty of trails with it.

Now run an iKamper with a GhostAwn with the tent offset 2” to accommodate the awning size. I’m obviously aware of my clearance issues on trails but am able to still take it thru some tight mall parking lots haha. The tent stays on the truck 24/7 and I have a 10’x20’ driveway shade if need be to park it out of the elements.

Question--why would you get rid of a JB? Also--how did that awning mount work out with the overhanding tent shell?

You'd be terrible at NASCAR. You're always turning right.

Added another kid to the family which made us move to the larger iKamper. The awning mounted to a Rhino Rack Pioneer with a set of Tracklander brackets and plenty of spare hardware and spacers. It worked well.
