tis indeed a bit of a enigma....
the idler puller connects to nothing - pull off the oil pump cover and it is just a blank mount.
am guessing it is there to balance the vibrations / harmonics of the spinning belts -
but indeed many a mudder don't have it installed and never knew it at all...

Pretty common if your belts are getting stretched out/old, or they are not correct length, then the alternator tensioner is close to maxed out and that leans the belts away from the idler. Can also be caused by running an undersized water pump pulley. I removed my idler pulley several years ago and I don't miss it.
 
That's true, they're old but Toyota - (I tried to replace them today w/o taking the battery tray out and failed. :doh: )
 
Mine is missing the pulley and is around $50 a new one. Seen like is trowing money in the garbage since is working ok

I ordered the following belts based on OEM spec, any one know if there is a difference between the two 77 belts as to which goes on which route for the two belts that are the same size or am i just over thinking this.
