My buddy bought a 62 that was sitting for 2yrs.The truck ran PERFECT when parked(he knew the owner)The CEL is now on,we changed the oil, plugs, cap and rotor. It still has the 2yr. old fuel in it.IT idles rough, and coughs a little(not every time)through the air cleaner then revs out good.??????Any help would be greatfull!

Looks like you know what's wrong. Probably some water in the gas which should be expected after a couple years of sitting. Drain it or just try a can of something like HEET and see if that helps.

We ran it just about empty and added some fresh fuel,it's much better but still has a rough area above idle.???

Might try running some seafoam or some injector cleaner through it, it may have gummed the injectors up from all that old gas. Might want to check for vacuum leaks too.

62'sare nortorious for rough idles w/any vacuum leaks. Tighten down the valve cover, see that it has the gasket, make certain the oil dipstick is firmly attached, check as best you can all hoses that could allow vacuum leaks. Including from the air filter. If all else fails, consider adjusting the valves.

The truck had the original plugs, cap and rotor......not sure if the valves were ever done!
