Hello Everyone,

So recently I've been noticing my Cruiser idling roughly after I turn it off and go do something for a while and then come back and try to go somewhere else. To get rid of it I would usually just give it some gas and warm it up a little and it would work just fine. Sometimes I didn't have time to wait for it to warm up, so I would have to put it in gear and go, but it wouldn't really produce power at the lower rpms and then suddenly pick up. Yesterday, I went to the airport to have dinner with my wife and when I came back out it would turn over and run for about a second and then stall, eventually I got it started and home.

I talked to my dad and a buddy about it and they gave me a couple of ideas of what it might be, but I figured I would tap into the infinite amount of wisdom in here.

new distributor cap and rotor, then check spark plugs. my camry just had the same symptoms and it was as simple as that. it had gotten to where it wouldn't even start when warmed up. cold was no problem.

I was thinking the spark plugs because I have no idea when they were replaced last, so I was going to do that any way. I bought it with a new distributer cap, or so the guy said, but I'll look at it. Thanks for the help!

Since I don't know, what series cruiser are you talking about? My dad's advice was always if you can't remember the last time you replaced them, start with the cheap stuff like plugs, wires, cap and rotor. He's a mechanic (retired) so I usually trust his automotive advice.

Its a '94, but that's what I'm thinking too. I probably need to replace the plugs any way, replace the fuel filter and small stuff like that couldn't hurt. thanks for the help!

Fuel filter was my next suspect but it can be a little more work and cost than the previously mentioned parts. Don't skip the air filter if you get to that point too.

I replaced the spark plugs today and checked the air filter, which looked fine, today. I drove it and it seem to have worked, but only time will tell. I defiantly can tell a difference in the power.

Not to sound pessimistic but those two items shouldn't cause an engine stall. Did you address the TPS? I think this was a leading cause of mysterious engine stall in the 80 section of Mud. Also, any CEL (check engine light)?

It doesn't do it when I'm driving down the road or when I start it cold. It only did it when it was warm, turned it off for a while and come back to go somewhere else. The cel isn't on, except for when its supposed to be. (i.e. right before you turn it over) It idols rough for a little while and after it warms back up or I get going its fine.

Soooo, Ali, you were right. It's still doing it. But I have a theory, it is acting like the air/fuel mixture is off when I restart it. Like a sensor isn't sensing that the engine is warm and dumping more fuel in. Has anyone seen or heard of this? I'll have to do some digging...

Ox sensor. Or I guess sensors in your case.
