I cannot seem to find a good answer. Installing the Rough Country basic rc800 shocks that came with my H*ll Creek suspension lift. Can I mount them with the white piston/cylinder on the top and the piston rod and shock boot cover on the bottom. I see pictures of them installed both ways. I want the shock boot on the bottom, but not if it will mess the shocks up. Safety first,

Howdy! The bad news is that with the boots down, it tends to accumulate sand, mud, water, etc. The good news is I have had mine mounted that way over 20 years on my Piggy, and they still work just great. I don't have to worry much about the wet stuff here. Most shocks only know compression and extension, but not orientation: which way is up? Good shocks don't have contamination in the gas/liquid chambers, so there should not be any bubbles in there to create changes in the valving. Search MUD, as there have been several discussions on this. John
