Yes starting sometime in ‘64 they went under bed with the tire and the handle stuck out almost as far as the rear bumperrettes. Prior to that as Wngrog said it was mounted 40 swing out style.

What’s the story on this jewel?

Port add on for sure, factory heaters though available starting in late ‘64 didn’t be come standard until till ‘66 though most ‘65 had them. There was a factory option heater in early 40/45s it was the Denso “clam shell” and was Uber rare mostly seen in ‘63 FJ45LVs

Here is a September 1964 Toyota price guide, shows the Eaton heater option as well as others.

When/where did the defrost ducts get installed?

They look as old as the unit.

Were you asking about the roof in the other thread? Looks stock. It’s steel.

Are there ribs in the roof? Should be six ribs.

Can’t imagine those ducts are port installed.

JP @ClemsonCruiser - why does my early ‘63 FJ45L-P SWB fixed top have these brackets?

(I love hijacking wngrog’s threads 😝)

I think there was a lot of cross over and mix and match in the early years when they were transitioning to the removable top shorty. I think the heaters are dealer installed.

I would agree on a lot of cross over parts on the early. My 63 has the metal ribbed top but I just had a 64 fixed top in here that was metal and had no ribs. It’s the second one I have seen with no ribs.

Also I have seen a couple different designs on the tail lights. Some mounted down on the rear frame and others mounted directly to the beds.

my 63' has a ribbed steel roof and my 64 has a smooth steel with no ribs (also sold a 64 no long ago that was the same)

Learned something. I’ll go home now.
