I have to remove the disc brake rotors on an early 80 FJ 40 and am stumped. I have the hub contrrl and snap ring off but can't figure out how to remove the cone washers. Any help would be appreciated. Also, any advice re the rest of the project. Is it Ok to only turn one rotor if the other one is OK or should both rotors be turned to match? Thanks for the help.

use a small chisel in the slot of the cone washer and hit with a hammer

brass drift on end of studs whack with a hammer

Put the nut back on so that it is flush with the end of the stud, and use a brass rod/drift/punch, and they will pop right out. Sometimes, they do not pop out, but are loose, so watch for that. No need to beat the hell out of them to get them to move, they will release.

Good luck!
