My Toyota obsession started way back about the time Toyota offered 4wd Mini Trucks in the USA. My cousin bought one of the first years offered and I was always amazed at how well it got around up in the mountains and on the farm. My father was a mechanic for Datsun, Volvo, Gm and Ford and always said that Toyota was the best. When I got my drivers license I couldn't afford a Toyota and had to wait till after I had saved enough money during my enlistment in the military. The day I got out I had a brand new used '86 Toyota 4wd pick-up waiting for me when I got back home. I drove that pick up almost the whole decade of the ninties and it never let me down. I sold it about 10 years ago, thnking I needed a bigger truck. I wish I would have never sold it.
I tried Jeep, Chevy and Ford for the next 7 years but always missed my Toyota, especially when it came to wrenching, mostly because I never needed too. I decided I wanted another Toyota and wanted one I could sleep in as I camp in Grizzly Bear country often. The 60 seemed to be the perfect size and in my price range. In 2007 I made an eBay buy on the '83 that spent most of it's life in Tucon, AZ. Being 99% rust free was the good part. The bad part was everything was worn out, leaks everwhere, etc. I wouldn't buy one without looking at it first, but anyway here is what it looked like when I brought her home:
