It's time i introduce myself. I told myself that as soon as i get the truck running i would do a intro thread and i'm at that point. I got this truck from my cousin a few months ago and it's been sitting at his house for about 9 years. He bought this truck from a kid that had it and drove to and from college at about 30 miles one way and finally realized that a fj40 doesn't make a very good highway vehicle is Los Angeles so he parked the 40 and bought himself a honda. When my cousin bought it it's been sitting for a number of years and my cousin got it running and registered it and promptly parked it in the garage because he went through a divorce.
9 years later I came into the picture. I towed it home thinking all i had to do is put fuel in the tank, recharge the battery and drive. Wrong! At some point somebody must have used some kind of tank sealant on the inside of the tank because the outlet tube was clogged so i had to remove the tank and "roto rooter" the tube out, it worked. Next I had to rebuild the carb because the float was stuck open and when i opened the carb everything inside was stuck. After the carb rebuild i change the clutch master and slave because the master clutch reservoir was empty and streaks were on the inside firewall and from all the info i gathered on this site, when you have to change one, the other is not far behind. Well i finally got it idling and shifting, next is getting it smogged and registered. I have a soon to be 16 yr old son and this is going to be his dd to and from high school, hope he appreciates it. After i straighten out the smog then it's power steering time!
Thanks guys!
