Keikoroo,

Do your son and yourself a huge favor and make sure the brakes work better than new. I upgraded the front calipers to '94 4Runner calipers (bigger) and also converted the rears from drum to disk. When I was a new driver, I came very close to rear-ending more than a few folks. Good brakes were all that saved me!

So is the 4Runner calipers a "bolt-on" or is there a lot of fabrication involved?

Maybe I just missed they build date of your 40, but it looks like a 77 to me.

The front calipers went on my 77 with just a little trimming on one corner of each dust shield.

Good eyes! It is a '77. So did you notice a big difference after the caliper switch? You think the larger caliper will fit inside the stock steel rims?

It's in FAQ. But yes, the stock steel wheels should clear the IFS calipers just fine.

I'll be doing that swap within a month or so, I'll make sure to take some good pics for you when I do.

Thanks Dan.

I did notice a very nice difference, but I did both the front upgrade and the rear disk conversion at the same time.

Definitely check the FAQ & Tech Links for the IFS caliper upgrade.

Good luck

Very nice truck! The thing looks like you could buff it out and it would shine. Great score! If your Son doesn't appreciate it then don't let him destory it. Keep it for yourself and you will be the coolest in the house!

Later,
