I was reading my locker manual (RD33) and notice it is written 8.9" on the cover of the manual. What is that 8.9" when i lookup ring and pinion of a landcruiser they talk about 9.5"?

Pretty sure it's 9.5.

From Rob Mullen's Cruiser FAQ:

9.1 AXLE CODES
--------------
Axle codes are never located on the axle housings themselves. In trucks
manufacturered after 1976, the axle codes are located on the build plate
which can be found inside the engine compartment. The pinion (and sometimes
the ring gear have the tooth counts (from which the ratio can be calculated)
stamped into them.
Example: K 08 2

G 8"

Pretty sure also but when you look at arb web site they refer to 8.9", i don't know what that stands for.

They are both right.
They are 9.5 inches across the teeth side and 8.9 inches across the base mounting surface.

Hi All:

ARB has changed their Air locker part numbers over the last few years, consolidating several models into one. so, the old RD02, RD08, and RD33 models are now all covered under the RD124 model.

The Rd02 was for 40/55/60/70 Series full-floating axles; the RD08 was for 40/55/60/70 Series semi-floating rear axles; and the RD33 was for the full-floating rearend in the FZJ80 (HZJ80 as well, I assume?)

Regards,

Alan
