I am in the final stages of getting some new wheels and tires. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

Will a 4" b.s. work on a 16x8" wheel on a lifted (OME) FJ60? I'm looking at getting some ProComp wheels and tires.

Tires - ProComp M/T 285/75R16 with some ProComp 1069 wheels (16x8" with a 4" B.S). Will this setup work, or will I need to go with a smaller b.s. even with a 16" rim?

Thank you.

generally we reccomend 3.5" BS, although there are some 3.75" BS rims that will fit, but this depends on which manufacturer/model. the part that usually rubs is the tie rod where it connects to the knuckle arm. this usually rubs against the inside edge of the outer part of the rim (if that makes any sense). Although sometimes there is a problem of the caliper rubbing against the rim.

Basically i think a 16" rim will give you more room for more BS but i dont know if a 4"BS 16" rim will fit. thats more of a chev size and i would reccomend trying to find a 3.5" BS rim. If you use the search function you should be able to find rims that fit.

This thread shows a bunch of rims others run on there cruisers and what they look like:

Thinking 16 X 8s myself and planning to do test fits in the next few weeks. I am thinking the larger diameter (16") will eliminate some of the conflict issues found with larger 15" rims.

If you find that you can't get away with 4" offset, check out Marsh Racing Wheels. The have fair pricing any you pick the offset (no extra charge).

I am just south of you. I have also been looking for new wheels lately and would like to go a 16 x 8 too. I am looking for some black wheels. Let me know how they fit.

The tire choices are much better with 16" rims. More sizes, tougher sidewalls, etc. Most of the taller tires for 15" rims are way too wide. A lnarrower tire has a longer footprint and offers more lateral stability than a square footprint, There will also be less rolling resistance.

I don't know about clearance in the front, but the sidewall of my 33x10.5s (on stock wheels) just barely rubs the wheel well above the axle when I stuff it. I would think that with more backspacing it wouldn't work without wheel spacers.

Will do. First stop is America's Tire. The have a steely (black) that may work well and bit less expensive than Marsh's. If a bust will go to MRW.

Currently considering 10ply 285/70 QR16 BFG ATs.

BTW...anyone have the prefered backset for a 16x8? Is 3.5" the magic number?

I went with 3inch back spacing on some custom black steel rim I had made. I would say closer to 3 or 2.75 for b/s

I went 16X8 w/a 3.5 BS on BFG A/T 285/75/16s Shown here is my 60 w/a OME ultimate kit. Ne tie rod rubbing, plent of flex room.
These are stockton series 72 rims $125.00 ea.

That's pretty much what I had in mind! Did you go for the 10 or 8 ply BFGs?...and how are they running?

Here's mine. Bought my wheels the same place as Toad's (Stockton Wheels. Took 2 months and their service is so so) 16 x 8 x 5.5 explorer w/ 3.5 backspacing and black powder coating.
I have P2857516 BFGoodrich Rad KO A/T 8 ply. Bought 5 of them from discount tires.
I love them. It raised my rig another 2 inches. Next will be re-building the engine then new paint job.

Nice...

Stockton is well know in these parts, as alternative check out Marsh Racing http://www.rockcrawler-mrt.com. They do any offset, no additional cost. 16X8 non-bead lock rims?...approx. $90.00. Not bad.

No personal experience with MRW, but have heard good things, might be worth checking out.

I went w/the 10 ply, the price was really close to the 8 ply.
They run good, a little moe wander than the old stock tires, but part of that sould be worn tie rod ends.

I'd ask esh here on mud about the Marsh wheels before pulling the trigger on those.......

I am interested in the Marsh 15 x 8 D - style Chrome Rim. At $90, and with looks similar to the stock wheels it may be just the ticket for my FJ60 to run 33 x 12.50s.

Any input welcome!

Talked to Marsh this morning. They don't have the 6 on 5.5 centers in the D window style. So, that settles that. They do have the circle style centers in the chrome wheels and the black wheels in this size.

Thanks,
Dan

I called them as well. I personally prefer the circular slots...didn't ask about the "D" shape. Good news is they can do 16"; 6-5.5; in 3.5" offset for $89.00 and have them to me in about a week.

Got one more place to check, and if it doesn't fly will probably order from March next week.

Hmmm.....

As I noted earlier, I haven't had personal experience with Marsh, but got a positive report from a buddy that ran their wheels on a Ford F350 super duty diesel.

Something about Marsh we should know???

I'd rather not quote him from a PM here in this thread....I pm'd him earlier this week about his Marsh wheels. I am interested to know other's experiences, but it sounds like he had a bad one with two sets of wheels.....

I have a friend that got a set of beadlocks for his Dodge M37 and in general he was happy with the product. But, he had an issue with wheels being dropped in transit to him and receiving damage. Marsh hadn't insured them with UPS, so he wound up having them repaired by a local shop before mounting them. UPS paid a small fee for repairs, but I am not sure if it covered the actual work or not.
