I'm off to New Zealand this Christmas. In the back of my mind I'm wondering if I should (well I will just to drool over the trucks that we can't get) visit a Toyota dealer and get some RHD and 13BT specific parts that are hard to get on the east coast of Canada.

The truck is a 89 BJ74 with a 13BT.

This is what I'm thinking:

Track rod/tie rod ends
Engine seal kit
Clutch plate
Throw out bearing

What else would make sense and is reasonable to bring?

Maybe new injectors or a rebuild kit
Throttle & hand throttle cable
Speedo Cable

Is there a parts place that people recommend in the Aukland, Hamilton area? Since I haven't had the truck for very long I;m still learning about parts availability in Canada. Maybe it's not even worth it.

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had my BJ60 Canadian market truck since 1989 and I've done the clutch twice (it can be rebuilt locally if you cannot find the parts), I've never done the tie rod ends until recently (505,000kms), never done any seals in the engine and the injectors are rebuidable at any decent diesel shop (NOT the local Toyota dealer but a shop specializing in diesel injection repair).

Also airlines can get grumpy about auto parts, ESPECIALLY ones that have been in the fuel system and diesel injectors MUST get fuel in them to set them up.

I would look for contacts to do future business with. Also a few of those items could possibly be sourced locally like the speedo cable and hand throttle. They are probably the same as those found on North American FJ/HJ60and BJ70. Ive been using a $25 Hilux speedo cable in my 73 series for 4 years and no problems.

A second set of injectors is always handy for eliminating engine headaches

Thanks 74#kiwicruiser. I'll actually will be going down to the south island. I'd like to kayak doubtfull sound and vistit mount cook. The usual tourist things. Maybe I'll get a chance to stop in Dundin.

If you could pm the phone numbers it would be much appreciated. So far I'm thinking to bring back at least a set of tie rod ends for a rhd.

We'll see how much else the budget allows for toyota parts. After looking at all the stuff to do down there, I'll be broke;-).
