i have an 89 FJ62 with an A440 auto tranny, 199k miles. when i shift into reverse there is a bout a 1-1.5 second delay and then CLUNK! it feels like i just got rear ended. it is a little less severe going from 1st to 2nd gear, but still a clunk. i did a search, but did not find a remedy. anybody experienced the same thing?

thanks guys,
Todd

Try searching for "McNamara gear". Don't know anything about it as I have a standard tranny, but have seen enough threads on the topic.

Search for rodney flush also. Should be some good reading.

This is common with the 62 when mileage piles up on them if I recall it is the T/C gear or shaft that starts to wear causing the clunk.
