So a few individuals attempted simultaneous break-ins to vehicles parked in the street and driveway of my culdesac a few weeks back. Car alarms went off and they got away with some things from a neighbor. The passenger rear quarter glass on my LC was broken, but nothing was taken.

I ordered the glass and weatherstripping. I want to do this myself, but am not sure if I have to take apart the door division or not in order to get the replacement glass in. Does anyone know the steps to replace? I could use some pointers from someone who has done this before. Is urethane necessary? If so, where's the best place to get the 3M stuff?

Replacement, per the FSM, requires removing inner door panel and main rear door window.

The vertical black divider is then removed to get to the stationary window. That requires removing one bolt at the very top of the door (under the weatherstripping), a 2nd bolt just below the bottom of the window, and a 3rd bolt below that.

That said, the FSM shows the procedure for completely disassembling the door, so it may be possible to get the stationary glass out by itself, but that's probably a matter of trial and error. FSM does say the rear window track needs to be removed, which means the movable window needs to go also. Whatever you do, do not touch the rear window control once you pull the window, as you'll then enter the realm of 'pinch adjustment', which is a pita.

Having done the ds front window myself, I'd take a run at the stationary glass if it were mine...but I'd start early and save the :banana::banana: for later. If I had any doubts as to mechanical skill, I'd find a dealer or an experienced glass shop. It may help to ask you dealer as to who does their glass replacement.

Have band-aids available and I'd suggest a long sleeve shirt...lots of sharp stuff inside the door.

Finished the replacement a while back and forgot about updating my results. Steve had some good pointers above. The door panel must come off. There are 4 clips on the edge of the door. A couple screws on the bottom of the door. The screw behind the door latch. And one door clip near the inside hinge. Once you have the door panel off you can get to the two 10mm bolts Steve mentions. The stainless screw is atop the door underneath the weatherstripping. Make sure to lower the window completely before continuing.

My glass was completely shattered so removing the broken stiff required a trash can and a shop vac to get all the broken pieces of glass. Try to keep as much out of the door as you can. Pull the old weather stripping out. You can reuse the weatherstripping if yours is in good shape. I already ordered new so I tossed the old one rather than try to dig all the shards of glass out of it.

Once you have the old glass out, remove the window track completely from the door - you'll have to detach the weatherstripping from it and it will just hang there. Pull the rest of it down about halfway from the top of the door to make room to slide the quarter window over.

You'll have to wrap the weatherstrip around the quarter window prior to installation. I used soapy water to lubricate the rubber to make it easier to slide into place. You cannot simply place the window into the space. You have to line it up and slide it, from right to left on the passenger's side, in order to get it into place. Once it's secured, no urethane is required. Place the window track back in and reverse your removal steps. Now is also a good time to clean up the space from crud and dirt to make it easier on the motor.

...bookmarked this thread just for s&g's...hope I don't need to actually use it.

I assume that the motor operated window glass must first be removed and this will allow the divider piece to be moved forward to allow the quarter glass to be installed??

Anyone have a cut sheet from the FSM on this?

Nevermind....I think I located it....
