REPLACING KEY FOB (1 Viewer)

I havent had any problems with the replacement keys from Amazon that have the fob built in for that year. Unfortunatly without a master you wont be able to program a key to start the car without a little work.

If you want to add new keys to your ecu you will need to have the eeprom "virginized", this will put your ecu in registration mode and allow you to add your keys as masters. There are locksmiths that can do this, but it isnt cheap.

I can help you virginize your ecu. I offer preprogrammed eeprom chips if you are able to swap them out yourself.

I need help with this. I have a 98 with a valet key. I have a 99 & 01 100 series for parts I can pull the ECU out of it (it does have the master key/fob)... if it’s a plug and play? Or should I go the preprogrammed eeprom chip? I’m lost on this topic. My autistic son keeps throwing away my valet key so he doesn’t have to go to school. My brain is temporarily scrambled.

Not too sure, but the ecu out of your 99 would probably work. I would be happy to flash your ecu for you of you would like.

Info below applies only to 4D not 4C keys

For the technically inclined, if you search on Ebay for "Toyota 4D all keys lost" you'll see a few devices that claim to be able to code new keys for you. They vary from around $150 to around $500. I haven't tried any of them, but have heard anecdotally that sometimes they work -- I think that's the best anyone can say.

If you have Techstream, you can also create a new master key if you have the cryptographic code. Techstream lets you enter that code and create a new master key. There is software, as well as online sellers, who claim to be able to provide that code. Again, I've heard that it does sometimes work.

No matter what you do, make sure you're referring to the correct Toyota security system. I know my 2001 LX470 has 4D; I don't know about other years of the 100 series.

1998-2002 all use 4c chips. These are not resettable onboard at all and require the eeprom to be erased and reprogrammed.

2002 on can be reset onboard with a passcode.

All Land Cruisers and LX470s from 1998-2002 use 4c transponder chips. 2003-2007 Toyotas use a 4D68 tp30 for masters and the LX470 uses 4d68 tp29 for master keys.

Nice to see you here at mudd, the problem is your VALET Key. Maybe im wrong but the Valet is missing a "tooth" or 2 from the master.

Even if you pull an ecu out of the 99 and transfer the fobs to Blank Keys, the valet is the only one the locksmith can copy....so the locking of glove box is out, but i guess you gain the Fob unlock/lock.

The difference between the valet key and the master is not the cut, but the key blade itself. The master (right) has material removed from the edge allowing it to fit into the glove box lock.

I have no master key - car came with valet only, have the key code from the dealer to cut more.

I have a late 2002 that can be reset onboard - but I'm not sure if I need 4C or 4D keys.

I have a set of OEM 4C blanks that are supposedly for 2001-2002 LXs
Master: 89070-60081
Sub: 89786-50030

I'd rather not cut these if they're the wrong keys.

Anyone know definitively which chip works with a late 2002?

As far as I know, it's 4C. But if you only have a valet key, you can't program additional keys.
