I'm thinking of replacing the factory navigation in my 02 and wanted to know if anyone has done this. I'm concerned about the integrated climate control and I'm hoping its as easy as swapping out a non-nav unit.

Fubuki,
From what I've researched, you have to replace the whole nav radio console because of the climate control integration. I found a swap for the non nav which is $300. I'm not sure if the wiring is direct plug and play but I imagine it would be. The company that sells this would also give a credit for your consol and nav in return. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. Can you tell me what the company is?

if it can be done effectively and easily, that would be a good preventative move cuz I'm sure you could sell that thing for beaucoup $$ on ebay to some poor guy who lost his and balks at the $5000 repair...

This sounds like an interesting idea when the day comes. Anyone have pictures of the updated 2003+ dash without factory NAV?

What's that button on the right wooden panel for?
The one next to the cellphone in the second pic.

Not a button but a light for the passenger restraint. The non-nav dash doesn't look too bad. Considering the quality of aftermarket nav systems it wouldn't be too bad to swap the OEM out, though I'll probably wait until mine dies before doing that.

Hmmm, I may have found a solution to my current frustration. Has anybody tried swapping non-nav system into a previously nav'd rig? Is is completely plug-n-play?

BendFJ, is there a reason that you don't want to share more on the board? ...not trying to stir up trouble, just wondering....

This would be a much cleaner option, especially since I need to update my nav CD and the cash could go to a new unit instead of the CD. Anyone try it yet?

Have you guys tried pinging Mot here on MUD? He's in Japan and will find/sell you stuff not easily available here .
