Hey Gang,

O.K. here is the deal... my truck runs like poop in the cold... If I let it warm up (high Idle) until the temp is well up to full running temp it is fine... but if it is like minus 15C or colder, and I only let it warm for about 10 min. and try to drive her she will end up stalling out on me over and over until the truck is really warm... like I am not getting enough fuel... I have tried all of the gelling tricks... antigel... fuel filter change... veggie oil... degel... anything I can think or that has been suggested I have tried... I would like to remove the ACSD as I don't think it is working right anyway, and maybe luck out an solve the other problem too.. .. so I would like a part number if possible, and where I can get it in Canada... also what is involved in removing the ACSD and what else I have to do... thanks... i'll take and possible advise on the problem... and removal of the ACSD.. thanks again...cheers...

I thinks its great idea.

We have a customer who expierencing poor cold weather driving with his 1HD-T, as soon as it warms up it runs fine.

Let us know how it works out.

Rob

Do you have the blanking plate??

Darren ,try an advanced search ,there are about 14 threads containing ACSD.;)

Try G&S cruisers or there is also a diesel VW that has an identical blanking plate(the blanking plate is also found on a 1HZ)

Was Raj at Holmes fuel injection able to shed any light?
We got at couple of blanking plates to play around with.
One is on Martin's 80 the other is going onto my 1HD-T when I get to it.
I believe mac picked one up at Surrey fuel injection
The Bosch part numbers I have written down are
Plate #1 461 074 312
O ring #2 460 233 011
Hex bolts x2 #1 463 414 344

Sheldon

the Denso #'s are 949140-2960 for 1990-1993, and -5820 for 1993-1995 for the #50 o ring.

The inner blanking plate for lower shaft is 096218-0270 which I will check on $ in tucson today.

I have I believe and axle leak an maybe a blown o ring in the ACSD (mine was cracked off).

ALSO, IMPORTANT NOTE:
The L series ACSD that Dave Tay (Beanz2) note in his replacement is a non service item in the US with zero stock shown even in the Ontario Warehouse. It's gone baby.......

update:

Bosch VE pumps and Denso pump block off plates are all the same bolt spacing. I went to a local diesel shop and was given not only a used Denso plate off a core injection pump (thinner by 1.5mm than a Bosch) but also give an O ring as the place's stock was circa 1995.

I went home, removed the mangled ACSD, replaced the flattened (1990?) O ring on the pump and put the standard issue Denso used block off on.

5mm nuts, about 4 minutes of work and 6oz of diesel spill.

reprimed the pump, started the engine, bled the injection lines at the injectors, and douched the pump itself with brake clean.

I'm set for a while.....

My blanking plate is indeed from a VW diesel, a Bosch VE pump. Plentiful. Any diesel injection shop should be able to provide you with one.

Thanks for the help guys.. I will try to get this done this week and let you know if it solves my problem.. thanks again... and any more advise is appreciated.. thanks,

70sguy,

Holy Crap does Raj ever know what he is talking about.... the guy is amazing... he figures that my seals are shrinking in the cold allowing air to get into my fuel system... as a matter of fact he is 100% sure that this is happening is what he said... makes a lot of sense to me.. now I need to remove my fuel pump and replace the seals i guess... Thanks for the hook up with him.. I would have never solved this on my own...

Jeez, you got that thing off and back on in 4 minutes? Can you come by and do mine? I can't even get an allen key on the bolts, they are buried behind the spring thingy. How the heck did you get the POS of so easily?? I've got my blanking plate and everything, but I've been putting off swapping our the ACSD for a couple months now because it is such a PITA to get off (seemingly).

Jonathan where are you located? I'm in Surrey and I can give you a hand to change it if you like. Once you remove the idle up lever it's very easy to change. PM me if you like and we can get together and change yours.

I called a local diesel/ fuel system shop today, and they were not able to help me out with part #'s etc. at all .. they said to come down and they could try to help me out.... any idea where i might be able to get these parts from?? In Calgary preferably??

to the guys who have the VW blanking plates, hopefully I don't sound too stupid, but did you just go to a local VW dealership?? VW part #'s?? really lost on this one

That's the trick, eh? Ok, I will try and remove the lever first. If I get stuck on that I'll come on by (I'm in Richmond right now).

Finally got it done. You must have a bit of a different definition of "very easy" from the rest of us.

Getting my allen key on the top bolt of the acsd was a PITA because the spring-loaded lever was totally in the way. I ended up having to use a pry-bar to move the lever out of the way (all the time with the spring trying to push it off). Luckily once you can get at the bolts, they came undone very easily, because they are very short (see below).

Anyone else thinking of doing this, DO NOT REUSE THE BOLTS holding the acsd onto the pump. They are very short (at least mine were), and if the blanking plate is at all thick there will not be enough thread to tighten them without the risk of stripping. I ended up using the bolts that hold the idle-up assembly, which are much longer, and got new bolts for the idle-up assembly.

Still trying to track down the parts.. .. anyone.... anyone... please help if you can.. thanks,
