The fuel guage sending unit on on my FJ60 has gon out. I purchased a replacement and was wondering how difficult this instalation is for someone who has some skills but is far from being an expert in mechanicals.

The fuel gauge sending unit is easy. Under the rear carpet there is an access panel. Remove that panel and under it will be the sending unit. Unplug the wires and take an 8mm socket I believe and undue all of the bolts holding it in. Snake the old one out and put the new one in, bolt it down, and re connect the wires.

Yep, just like Adam said. Easy.
Just remove the stainless strip plate at rear and fold the carpet forward.
