Hi guys,

I had a bit of search but couldn't find anything specific...

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me as to what is required to swap out a 3b and replace it with a 13bt (from a MWB cruiser).

I realise they are very similar engines but before I commit to the purchase i want to get a better understanding of what is involved in the swap.

I curently have 3b with 5spd, and assume that i would replace my engine only. So would engine mounts need to be altered, would the input shaft need to be altered for the h55f? does the 13bt use the same radiator as the 3b (thinking about 60# steering later on)..

also, if you could choose between an aftermarket turbo (denco/turboglide) or a 13bt which one would you get and why?

any info you guys have would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Andrew

The mounts, input shaft and radiator from the 3B will be the same as what's needed for the 13BT. The 13BT will also come with a factory turbo (hence the "T"). I can't reccomend an aftermarket kit, but if you decide to go that route I'd love to buy your stock set-up...

It would definitely be the easiest engine swap to do with your rig.

The 13B-T uses a VSV instead of an EDIC. Also uses a glow screen at the intake manifold instead of glow plugs...but that shouldn't be an issue. You can use the nipple on the 13B-T intake cross over tube as a great place to put in your turbo gauge...normally a pressure sensor gets its readings here for the dashboard idiot lights.

Check out G and S web site, they have all the info on swaps into every cruiser you can imagine, and tells you what is involved, what can stay or go.
Cheers,
Deny

I had the same thoughts with my 60 about a year ago. Decided against the swap and put in an AXT turbo, as could not justify replacing my 3B that starts at -25oC (grudgingly), gets 12 km's per litre, with near perfect compression and just hitting its prime at 360,000 km's.

Installation is simple and the increase in power is substantial, installed in a couple of hours and took about a week to dial in the fuel / boost pressure. Adjustments are easy for alternating conditions (high alt, need for more power). If I didn't like sticking my head under the hood so much could even install in cab adjustment cables.

Having driven both the 13BT and the 3B with turbo I still perfer the 3B
