I am in Denver on business today, and am driving a rental Santa Fe. It feels like it is about to explode on the highway, and I tried to pass a car earlier on I70 and barely made it. I think it has about 12 horsepower. It is also a 4x4; how funny would it be to take 'er up in the hills?

I was going to hop in a Camry at DIA, but someone had already taken it. Oh well.

I am just glad that I am out of town so that no one I know sees me in it.

    That's my story for today.

Are you useto driving at this elevation? I ask because many people come up here and say their vehicles have no power at all...because, well, they don't at this elevation. I took my '97 to Vegas once and couldn't believe the power down there, felt like a totally different vehicle. You can always see the out-of-towners going up I-70 West of Denver, in their mini-van, cruise-control has been set since Kansas, all of a sudden their vehicle can't go that fast, they floor it and can only manage about 50 up the hills, they think something is wrong, seen some even pull over thinking something is wrong...heheh...silly tourists.... :D

I remember that, too. I bought a '94 toy truck from Elway when I lived in Denver, and it was gutless. It sure picked up a lot of power after I moved to AZ :).

It always amazes me how much power there is from my cars at sea level. Alot of people don't realize that you don't have to go to the mountains to hit that loss. There is plenty of loss at Denver's level (5280'). I heard from somone that at 10,00ft you should expect about decrease of about 25%. If this is true than we are mising about 12.5% at Denver.

Drove to Texas in my Honda this summer and had problems with how much power it had (would burn out at all the stop lights). You could hardly loosen a tire here if you tried.

    In my best Thai imitation:

My G500 coud kick the ass of the Santa Fe! But I want to be clear, I am not saying anything bad about the POS Santa Fe. No matter how much you like your Santa Fe, I will not stoop to name calling, you dumbasses. :D

I heard if you keep your expectations REALLY low, then you'll be pleasantly suprised with the Hyundai.

Wait till ya drive a 22re at elevation. Befor the 5.29's doing 3rd, almost second up the bigger hills(Vail etc..). And the funny thing about it, friend just had his dyno'd as he is doing a 3.4 conversion. Think it was somewhere around 70-80 hp(and thats corected  )...

i know you can tune a carb for higher elevation but what do you do with fuel injection?

Get more horsepower out of the engine, or/and lower gears....

It tunes itself. The air/fuel mixture is adjusted electronically, just as you would do it manually with the jets on the carb.
