I'm in the process of removing the rear audio controls and replacing it with two power outlets. The problem is that the dvd player mounted in the center console doesn't work when the rear audio control panel is unplugged.

I was wondering if there was a way to put some jumper wires in the end of the plug so the dvd player would still work. Or, should I just leave it plugged in and shove it under the seat somewhere?

What do you mean by "doesn't work"? The DVD unit won't turn on at all, turns on but doesn't output sound?, etc. The electrical wiring diagram for the '04 shows 3 wires going from the rear audio control panel directly to the DVD changer: pink (data positive), blue (data negative), and white (mute). The other wires in that connector do other things. The DVD changer appears to have it's own power supply that doesn't route through that connector. Post up specifically what's happening and I'll see if the EWD can help.

The screen up front said it couldn't detect the dvd player, so I assume the rear audio control has to remain plugged in for it all to work.

Anyway, I just tucked the rear audio control box underneath, between the metal plate and the plastic heater ducts. Here's a pic of the final install using oem toyota parts. I just spliced into the power outlet in the bottom of the center console storage box. Only going to be used by the kids to charge their phones, ipads, etc. on trips.

I like this, except I might put usb outlets in vs the power outlets you used.

Sent from my iPhone, please embrace the typos

Using the oem plug panel, you got approx 2" from the outside surface of the panel to the storage bin wall behind it. Might consider this when installing aftermarket outlets.

Here is the stone color one I used. I think the tan one is a -A2. Call and ask when you order.

The OP simply left the rear audio control panel plugged in and tucked inside out of the way.

OP/Others: do you have instructions on how to remove the rear radio face plate and/or remove the center console entirely? I am considering power plugs as well as removing the five disk changer. I have searched an cannot find. Absent locating instructions, I will try to post them here when I get to this project.

Was the connection for the existing power point soldered or were there connectors. If connectors what kind were there. I have a couple of power plugs ordered and want to make sure I know how to wire them

Open the cup holder. Remove the two screws above the cup holder, back under the back panel of the center console. Pull on the sides of the panel and it will pop off. Straight forward from there.

I just spliced into the existing power outlet that comes up thru the bottom of the center console. I removed the wiring and the bottom part of the power outlet to get it on my work bench. Soldered and applied shrink wrap.

I didn't worry about an additional fuse since the kids only charge their phones and ipads. No fridge or high amperage equipment will be powered by the new outlets.

This is what I would like to do! Is there a simple spade terminal on the existing power outlet? I was thinking maybe I could add some of these to jump power off to the center row outlets:
