Hi Everyone,

Looking to fit a bonnet scoop on my 80, and want to remove the hood insulation. The problem is it's still in very good condition(tempted to reuse) and clips are stuck tight. Has anyone got any tips on removing the clip without breaking them, I put a lever(big screw driver) under one stuck pretty will.

Help appreciated.

Cheers.

I just removed mine and broke everyone one. Not sure if they're designed to be reusable. Now I'm curious though, although I wasn't planning on putting my insulation back on so I didn't care that they broke.
Maybe beno will chime in with a part number and costs.

Edit; seems like the search tool is still working.

Break them to remove and replace.

Thanks for the reply, just got them out. Used a set of long nose pliers and have to squeeze them the right way. Broke two, insulation is pretty crumbly, still in one piece, but went to powered around the clips as I removed them. might try and find some other insulation to put back instead, I should be able to find some new clips.
Cheers.

I was wondering what purpose it serves other than maybe deadening some of the engine noise. I broke most if the clips when I took it off to install a hood vent, but after moving the insulation across the country twice and multiple moves it's getting ragged and I don't think I'll put it back on.

I live in AZ so under hood temps are on my radar, but I don't think the insulation helps lower the under hood temps. Correct me if Im wrong.

Pretty sure it's more about protecting the paint on the hood from the underwood temps.

Break and replace - got new ones at local parts store off the rack - not cheap - about $2 each but easily available..........

Just got some from my local dealer. Thing they were about that same price. John

I used a fork with mine, only one broke. Although my 80 came from North Carolina so much of the plastic has aged very well. Installed a new hood insulator in the spring.
