Yep old thread revival, with some insight.

I replaced the whole antenna assembly on my 95 today. I could not for the life of me get the old antenna wire out from the firewall.

Ok now what? plan B.

I cut the original antenna wire at the base of the old antenna and spliced on a female end that I cut from an antenna extension cable. Bundled up the new wire on the new assembly and plugged it into the new female end that was spliced on splice. The splice is a delicate procedure but very easy.

Everything works like a charm. Now I have full antenna function just like OEM
That cable run is a night mare. splicing it was a good decision!!! An early FJ80 antenna mast replacement is a another nightmare altogether that I hope to never face again.

You can also replace with an nmo mount.

Great for ham gmrs or any other antenna..
Some of the Ham radios have fm on them too.

Great idea, I was just thinking who listens to FM any more, Took the broken antenna out and chucked it years ago.
Installing a ham now and this a great place to put the antenna !!
