A word of advice. If you live in a cold climate the stock running boards are actually great at keeping salt and snow off your cruiser. They are light weight aluminum so they don't rust. I used to have a Nissan Pathfinder with sliders and in the winter it would wedge snow, salt, and ice up against rocker panel. After a long time it begins to rust out. Plus the sliders eventually rusted out like you would not believe in the long run.

If you don't wheel and live where they salt the roads I wouldn't recommend getting sliders.

^^ this ^^

The factory running boards work well in snow and frozen conditions. They shed snow pretty well, and are not prone to icing. they also make it a lot easier to open the doors when the snow is deep.

Hmm, I am in Massachusetts...

Once you get over the "naked" look, you appreciate the lines of the truck - as the designers intended. Here in the S.E., we also get the fender "garnishes". I took my boards and garnishes off. I snapped this for a comparison. One looks like a truck, the other looks more like a cross-over wagon

Here's my 100 before putting the MetalTech sliders on; just looks like what a 'Cruiser is supposed to look like (to me anyway):

Is yours lifted or is the one on the right maybe in access mode or something ?? No comparison with the rb's removed as far as I am concerned. But I'm funny that way :p

Nope - all stock. See, in 2006 the 100 came in two forms: The "I Really Should've Gotten a Minivan Edition" and the "Yep, I Want a Truck Edition".

Most of the Minivan editions were sold in the US - they got running boards, fender garnishes/appliqués and some even got gold packs. Mine started life as a quasi-minivan. I rescued it - stripped the crap, swapped the tires and adjusted the stock torsion bars .55"

Closer comparison

I like mine without!

Hey Woodycreature, what vehicle are Your front mudflaps from/for?

Looks great!

They are for the 100. Contact Beno or Cruiser Dan for the parts. I commented on a thread somewhere here with the parts list and prices. I think at the time there were only a dozen or less flaps available.

I removed mine, sold them on CL, and never looked back.

When I took my running boards off I didn't like the look either. After a few weeks it started to grow on me. I removed the harmonic dampener and it looked much better. Give yours a few weeks. It will grow on you.

Seems like big rubber is the key for right look. This will have to wait. Sigh...

I thought I was going to take off my running boards after my daughter got old enough to clamber in. But they just offer too much utility for the family mobile. I think my minivan edition works great in the dirt.

I'm strongly considering the Metal Tech OPOR sliders for my '07 GX470. The one lingering (but not small) issue is my 5'3" tall wife. She needs/wants the step to get in.

My question is, has anybody measured the step height difference between the stock running board and the Metal Tech OPOR slider?

Thanks,
Bob

I don't know what the difference is, but here are a few photos that might be helpful. The OPOR sliders sit about 3.5" below the bottom of door/top of rocker panel gap. I've got mine tucked up pretty high, you might be able to mount them closer to 4".

The protrusion isn't great, but can be used as a step pretty nicely.
