Hi all,

I searched a bit and there are some threads but not a whole lot on this. I'm curious if anyone has a drawer system they add and remove on a consistent basis instead of leaving it permanently attached. Currently I'm looking to better organize gear and storage but am not yet able to put a permanent install in - GX is my wife's dd.

Or does anyone have a system of storage crates or boxes that they like that is easily added or removed for a trip?

Finally, is anyone using the OrangeBoxx rear window molle panel? Just curious your two cents if so.

I have been using a temporary build for a couple of years now until I build my permanent drawer system.
Basically it is a box that bolts into the floor where the third row seats clamp onto the hooks. Then I have a Front Runner Wolf Pack and a tool box that slide into it with all of my tools, parts, and recovery gear.
I have even bolted up an extinguisher to the side of it and a 2 gal Rotopax to the other side of it. Probably should add another two bolts to hold it down but it was supposed to be temporary.

Pics are here in my build thread I will insert them latter. Bluetribal's Baja Build

This is a 4x8 plywood top with a 2x4 frame anchored to the rear cargo loops and D-rings at the front seat bolts. Super solid, no rattles or noises while driving. The front 18" is on a piano hinge so I can adjust my seat rearward while driving but still have the full length to sleep on. The legs thread off so I can install/remove the setup fairly easily by myself. Right now there is a few layers of carpet padding and we use the REI 2.5" Camp Beds to sleep on. The bins are just cheap ones from an office supply store but have worked great! I can also fit one of the 5 gallon water cubes under there.

Those are great pics and ideas guys, thanks for those. I'm working towards coming up with a drawer system I can install and then remove as needed, which would only be a few times a year. But one reason for it is that the bigger retail store plastic bins are apparently not going to hold up well with even mild use and they are just not great for organizing. I may find some better ones at some point, but so far I haven't. And even if I do the issue there is stacking/securing a bunch of plastic bins in the back - hence the need for something more solid and contained.

I have used these for our last 4 camping trips. They are very heavy duty and come in a variety of sizes. I've seen them used where I work and they can take some pretty big hits.

This is what I put in...it has been a great modification and we really never missed the 10" of space. just a plywood frame and simple drawers. Had to lift the dog in back when we had her, but otherwise it was great. Keeps everything organized and out of sight. And those deep drawers just hold everything. We can still load it up with the ice chest (a little heavy to lift in or out but it works) and all of our luggage/equipment

I made a simple one that had to leave one of the third row seats in operation. I have four kids and one of them has to sit back there. Mine is pretty simple. It removes easily and attaches to floor using the cargo hook bolts with a simple bracket. It holds two Front Runner Wolf boxes, has a built in chuck box for all of my camp kitchen needs with drop down table, has mounts for my Orca cooler and a water jug. With cooler and jug removed works as a single sleeping platform.

I like that portion behind the third row! That is pretty clever and useful!

Thanks! It was an extremely tight squeeze back there. Had to plan to fit equipment where the distance between seatback and rear door worked. Very happy with it. Was going to make that piece removable but added more complexity and would be less solid. Survived a two week trip across southern Utah and the Grand Canyon.

I was the guinea pig for the OrangeBoxx molle panels for fitment on the gx470. They are great for lighter stuff, bot OrangeBoxx doesnt recommend having any major amount of weight hanging off them. That is for liability reasons. It is not because the product cant take it. I wouldnt want tools, a flashlight or fire extinguisher mounted to them. Those mounts would fail before the Molle panel would in an impact, and launch them. The molle panels attach to an adjustable bracket that mounts between the headliner and the 3rd row grab handles. The bottom was pressure fitted with delrin spacers. At the time we fabbed mine, there was no provision to mount through the plastic trim to steel on the bottom. OBF did extend the bottom of the panel by 3/4 to 1 inch on the bottom.
I havent figured out my permanent locations for everything. I have a small battery jump box, a molle pouch with my 7 pin to 4 pin adapters, extra hitch pins, etc), a couple pouches with two sizes of garbage bags, and some other misc stuff. I had my first aid kit up there, but have moved that and a couple pouches to a 5.11 molle panel i mounted in place of the cargo net. now that OBF has their drop down table heading to market this month, I may have to look into that.

I'll be building a removable package tray that locks into the 3rd row locking system. Thats going to be an autumn/winter project for me

Pics of the original install are somewhere in the thread. Traveling for a funeral this week, so may not have a chance to grab new pics for a few days.

not drawers (yet) here, but a rack so separate cooler/kitchen from the (current) junk show of gear, bags, cloths, stuff...
most soft goods (tent, sleeping bags, pads, chairs, stuff) go on the roof (box, or in drybags in the basket)
junk-show version that prompted a rack build

I am building a rear storage sleeping platform right now for mine and found this thread. Mine is based on the Thrifta build found on ExpoPortal. How do you all tie these down? Do you attach to the third row "latch" or utilize the bolt going to the tie downs? Looks like either way something would have to be countersunk so that it wouldn't affect the drawers or slides....
