This is more for info and I am not too interested to do.

Had alot of comments about strenghtening 8" axles over the years; gusseting or whatever the term.

Whats the reaction to this?

I have been running 8' axles for many years on 33" and 35" tyres and too date not had any dramas. I don't do competitions, just general offroad.

I've seen a few 105 series front diffs bent seems to be most common on passenger side ,
the look like a lowered ifs system with bulk camber lol
more than likely due to width of the 105 there even wider than the 80 series front diff.

I am reinforcing a set of axle housings from my 84 pickup turned rockcrawler. I know my current rear axle housing is bent. I am running a truss along the top and along the front of both housings (using a new rear axle housing). I am considering starting a thread on the procedure so you can follow along. :hmm:

Appreciate if you would.

I found after some pretty destructive testing, my braces and gussets ended up sinking into the housing on the top and tearing the housing open at the bottom.

My next axle will be a widened 60s one laminated then trussed.

That would be normal driving for you wouldn't it :) hahaha

Sounds expensive

haha, just a normal drive down to the shops ;)

Didnt cost me anything yet, i cut the housing right the way round, bent it back down then welded it back up with 6mm flat bar lol.

It bent far enough to pinch and snap the axle.

Perhaps some small lamination under your gusseting is a good idea.

U dont want to have this happen...
