Hi Robert,

My 94 is still running stock gears with 35" MTR's, but I intend to have 4:88's installed, Precision Gears have been the long running favorite here. There's a post the other day about All Pro Offroad having a new front gear option that's made in Japan by an OEM gear cutter. It's about the same price as PG's which will run about $400 for gears only F & R. My truck is very driveable with current setup but I live in Dallas, flat, not many hills and I don't drive far for work. Regearing should help give back some of it's pep.

I sure would like to find someone around here that would teach me how to set u my own gears. I'm a machinist and have all the precision measuring tools allready, and quite a few mechanics tools.

if you have all the tools, buy a FSM and just do it yourself, save you a lot of money......I already have the install kits and gears---4.88s....I just had a couple of questions regarding other 80 series owners and the path they took while regearing.....

I run 315 BFG M/T's and I regeared with Precision Gears 4.88's. Before I regeared I had to use my brakes when going down steep decents or risk nailing the guy in front of me. The other thing is you have to keep your foot off the skinny peddle around town---sort of feels like having a supercharger:) If I had to do it over I would do everything the same as far as gearing goes.

4.88 Precision Gear

315/70R17 BFG AT's w/ ~50% tread = speedo ~5 mph off, seems a little "overgeared"

37/13.5R17 Toyo M/T's ~95% tread = speedo dead on, drives like it should

Note, I'm turbo'd so that probably makes a difference.

Bryan man...you already have the skill set as well as the digital dial indicators, etc. that you need to get this job done. Having the metrology background that you should have makes this an easy job....

The only 'tough' part is getting in there and getting out the 3rd member for the bench to work on.

Cheers.

285s with OEM gears, all is fine...

4.88's, Truxus M/T 35's, Precision. AWESOME, quiet, drives great, wheels great, speedo 10% off (don't mind). If I did it all over I wouldn't change a thing!
