How much to completely rebuild a F40 front axel - parts cost? larbor cost?

Redo everything - wheel bearings, knuckles, diff?

Thanks and sorry for the noob Q

Dave

just replacing seals and new bearings (kit is 145 shipped)
tub of grease and some parts cleaner (15)
never paid someone to do my work so someone else will chime in...

Buy the FSM and do it yourself. It can seem intimidating at first, but after you do it once it will be cinch.

Try it and if you get stuck post up any problems and we can help you.

I've heard numbers thrown around from $700-$1000....

Thanks Guys - Would you believe I got quoted $2,000?! Thank God for this board.

More importantly, I know the truck doesnt NEED the work, I was thinking preventative.

I been doing my reading and knew a rebuild kit ran the $145 like Rooster indicated.

Unless I'm not describing the recommended work correctly, I was shocked at the quote.

Looks like it's DYI time. Do those kits contain everything to do the work? Where's the best place to get?

The knuckle "kit"(about a hundy) usually has the inner seal, wiper seal and felts, plus knuckle bearings/shims and some gaskets, but I think wheel bearings are about $50 a side, OEM, that is. I could be wrong, but wheel bearings are not cheap.

Bandy, you got the whole enchilada, including wheel bearings, for $145? Were they Koyo? I did not have to replace my wheel bearings, just cleaned and repacked.

Are you a welder by any chance?

If you are not a welder by profession, please disregard. I know someone by this name.

Dave, I would talk to Kurt at Cruiseroutfitters.com for the kit and bearings.

 The only vendor on this thread I've seen mentioned is cruiseroutfitters.com. Who's the unethical vendor?

Don't go there, it does not matter. Call Kurt and get some parts ordered:)
