It depends .. where are you .. :) here in Panamá with all stuff like valves and all are about 3500 USD with Toyota parts ..

It costs about $5000AUD for a bare long motor in oz if the head is replaced. A quality aftermarket engine kit is about $1300.
They sell new engines here for about $7-9K depending on who you listen to

Anybody have an idea of how much it costs to have a pro rebuild a 1HZ or other?

Thanks
Rob

Rob, I've got one that needs rebuilding in Bend, OR. My timing is probably next winter and I have an excellent mechanic in Bend that knows the HZ very well after working with me for two years on getting the 60 up, running and bullet proof. Bob

I'll send mine in right after he does yours! ; )

Have you discussed price with him?

Nope, but he's been totally fair (overboard fair) with me. Plus farting around with the one bad engine for 6 months, then pulling the head, reman. of the head, rebuild on the pump, new turbo, bottom end bearings, there's not much of a secret left to the HZ engine in the lower 48. We figure on sending the block to Spokane. Order rebuild kit from G&S, ENS or Australia (that is where we can save some cost), then it's just labor to put the puzzle back together. Winter is his slow season, thus a good time to build engines. I'd hazard a guess that labor will be $750-$1200 - depending on how much he does. then we've got parts and machine shop charges. The prices quoted earlier in this thread appear reasonable to me. Bob

$1000 a hole is usuall and that is just a rebuild (new rings, bearings, sleeve if applicable, gaskets and seals, reman the crank and cam, rebuild the head).
if you need a new crank or cam then the price skyrockets from there

$6,000?
What's the point of doing that? I think I would just buy another one and keep the old one for spares.
Assuming you aren't doing the injection pump, why should labor to do change rings, bearings, bore, etc. cost any more than any other straight 6 toyota?
I haven't bought a rebuild kit, so I'm just asking.......because it sounds so off.
Ahh....you must be speaking CAD dollars, eh?

i know ENS charges $12,000 CND for their rebuilt 1HZ usuing all factory parts...

not everyone can pull out their classifieds and go, "i need a 1HZ...i wonder who has one for sale this week?"

darn Ozzies, got the world by the tail...

Dont believe all is beer and skittles down here. Finding good 1HZ is not easy ,and 1HD T even harder(Ive seen 2x1HD T this year)
