Not posting this question for another silly debate of red vs green coolant. Wondering if folks know WHY the industry has moved away from green coolant for most new cars.

Here’s why I’m in a funk

I did an LS swap with a 2010 aluminum block 5.3. But to keep costs down, elected to keep the ‘93, radiator. Checking fluids, realized I’m using green coolant. I’m assuming the aluminum 2010 should use the newer red coolants, and the old radiator was designed for the green.

Not sure why I elected the green at the time. Certainly more concerned with the proper care of the engine.

Is the green more corrosive to an aluminum engine ?

Red Vs Green is OK.

Both are CDan approved. Both are used in bimetal engines.

Green is more available and less costly than Red (particularly Toyota Red). If it pukes on the trail, it will be easier to find green than red unless you carry it with you.

Should probably change out the green every two years vs a bit more for the red.

Your 93 came with an aluminum head and CI block, so it was Toyota Red if there was such a thing then.

You could run an elc but I’d skip toyota red. Easier is just stick with green and dump it every couple years like already suggested. Green will protect the AL fine.
