My rear pinion dust cover is loose and making an awful intermitant rattling sound. At least I think that's what it is. I'm also thinking the diff might need a rebuild there is slight play in the pinion bearing and it's a bit noisy. But the noise disappears when coasting.
Its a full float cable locker I have a spare open third. Can I swap it in while I get the one in there rebuilt?
Truck is my dd so don't really want to have it off the road.

I don’t know the answer to this, but I’m guessing as your in NZ your open third is also from a full float axle? I’m not sure how many different spline options there are out there.

In about 10 minutes you could jack one wheel up (to keep the oil in the axle), pull the 6 nuts off and slide the axle out. Make sure the axle splines match/engage the spare third you have.

Hi thanks yes they are all full float. Just not sure if the housing is different. Thought I would ask before pulling it apart and it being a fk up.
