rear storage in a 60 series (1 Viewer)

I have thought about this a lot and seen a few PICs and ideas. Just looking for a few more. I want to put in the drawers sort of like the MAF set up. Also thinking of doing away with the RR seats and putting in underseat storage with access from the doors and a flip up panel just in back of the ft seats.

I could not make the BHCC this summer but I will be there next summer. I want the beast to be 100% by then so I can continue the trip out west. Looking at a 4-5K trip over a month.

I would like an answer to the same question, except I plan to leave the rear seat in place, at least for now. Has anyone built the perfect rear storage for the FJ60? I would like to fit all my spare parts, recovery gear, tools etc in a permanent but non visable copartment, preferably with slide out drawers.

What you don't see is the second removable box that sits on top the folded down rear seat. That makes a level platform with hatches and "cubby holes". Plenty of room for me (6'-3") to stretch out for sleeping. The drawer and removable box have been covered with indoor outdoor carpet and have several tie downs for gear.

Jim-I've seen yours in action, I thought the rear seat was out? How did you attach your storage unit to the bed of your 60? Next time we wheel together i want to take some detailed photos. Like yours, I want to sleep in it. That day on the Rubicon with the pouring rain made realize that has to be an option.

Yep, rear seat is just folded down, you can see it i the pic. The little rubber feet on the seat "lock" in the front of the box. I used some dead bolt /hasp hardware to lock the back edge to the rear drawer case. The drawer case is bolted through the bed. Simple.

Funny, I have that page bookmarked already! I like it. I want a permante mount to fully cover the entire floor area. I want to take your plan a few steps furthur

Have a look at both of these web sites. They are both in Australia but have some good pictures of how they work. I had a look and took the good ideas from both of them to build my own design which I am happy as a pig in s#!t with. dont have any photo's yet but will post them when I do.

haha true. i dont like it that much either. If i made one it would be more like ammo boxes (metal and wooden) filled with tools and spare parts. So simple and takes up less room.

David, for the 60 I'm thinkin one thats the same height as the top of the wheel wells, made out of MDF with a true false floor. For the 40 we need to make it out of steel, using the body mount bolts, and bedline it. Come to think of it, why don't we just make two instead? We can even use my 40 to test it out on

Great ideas. I am almost finished building the rear drawer and storage for my 62.

A little about my design:
I removed the rear seats. Rhino-lined everything. I cut a piece the exact shape as the flat footprint of the cargo and secured it to the body using existing mount points (62 has tie down brackets in cargo which I removed creating 8 mount points).
The entire flat portion of the rear cargo will be one level, hiding the wells. From here, a gentle slope dropping about 4" to the another flat section where the rear seats were will have two hatch-type compartments that can be accessed, unlocked from the rear pass. doors. Mounting holes for seatbelts and seats used to tie into the body.
The drawer slides are 4' industrial application rated 400lb and full ball-bearing. Found them on the net. Pricey, but nice.
Everything will be carpeted, lockable, and hidden. I want it to look like a carpeted floor to curious eyes. I'm about 50% complete. Cost including slides will be about $500. I know pics speak a 1000 words, so I'll try to take some pics soon.
