Ok so I have the usual rusty rear quarters on my KZJ70. One side the metal has rusted away completely up to about 1-2" below the crease and the other has a hole at the bottom I can just about fit my hand into. As a temporary fix Ive treated them with a wax rust treatment and duct taped over the holes to keep the water/crud out until I have the time and money to fix them. Ive got a friend who has a spare door skin I can cut the bottom section off of to fix them if needed, we found its the perfect replacement panel as its exactly the same shape.............. but........

While I was taping them up I was looking at them and thinking there doesnt seem to be any reason for them to be that low. Can I chop them off just below the rear light clusters? Has anyone done this and if so can you post pictures please? :)

I know hulsty has. Have a search in the last few pages of the modified 70 series thread and he shows a pic there

check with lowenbrau, i think he might have done this.
i am thinking of doing this as well on the tractor since it is just a matter of time till i smoke them anyway.

Mine. How i did it? Just cut with the grinder and welded 3 mm plate to the bottom. Also had to weld some new metal to the back side, as there wasn´t any left...

Yup i've cut mine, they were full of rust and bog so I gave them the chip and extended by rear bar into the void. Was pretty easy to do, with a grinder I cut them 15mm below the height I wanted them and and folded a lip. Mad a metal patch then glued/riveted it on. Bit of paint and its sweet. Isn't the prettiest chop out there, but then neither is the whole car.
