Hard to believe, but my 5 year old has his hands over the window yesterday. It was about 3/4 down and he was "shooting" out the window. The next day the window was off track and would not go up. Well I fixed it in 15 minutes but c'mon. The 6 lbs of weight from my son's little hands threw it off track?
(Of course maybe it was the 12lb. weight of the AR-15 I gave him)

I would love to here a good solution also, as I can only roll down one rear window. It goes down but not back up :crybaby:

This could be because you have a tired or worn out window motor. Gravity helps it go down but there's not enough power to get it back up.

Highly unlikely that the motor's the problem.

trojan_knight,

Why for you not dig into the door and see what's up? Plenty of threads on this.

What are your exact symptoms?? Slow to roll up in cold weather, or an obvious mechanical issue, or??

Regardless, this should be an easy fix and not something you have to put up with.

Window off track

I believe my d/s rear window has come off track, too. I called a shop to see what they charge to fix since I am super busy right now with work, but the guy was poiinting me in the direction of the regulator and/or motor being dead and possibly having to be replaced. I can hear the motor wizzing when I press on the switch ont he door, so I was not thinking it had to do with any lack of power, but just that the window is off track and needs to be put back on track.

Any thoughts on this or is there a previous thread link which explains a DIY for this job? Any pointers in the right direction are helpful. My cruiser is a 96 FZJ80. Thanks!

The most common rear window off-track issue is usually from a roller wheel escaping the channel it is supposed to ride in on the bottom of the window.

The second most common rear window off-track issue is having the glass loose connection to the track that the roller wheel sits in.

So, whats yours? If it is the roller out of the track and you're mechanically inclined at all, it is an under 30 minute fix. I.e. likely to take less time than going to a service station.

YMMV

My PS rear window will come off its track if it is rolled down. So...I disconnected the switch.

The fix is to remove the glass from the door...and adjust the track at the bottom of the glass so that the motor arm, and roller won't slip off anymore. But I've been too lazy to do it. Plus no one ever rides in the back of my Cruiser for the most part.

Good summary, Grench.

Either fix is easy. In either case, glue the window to its "clamp/track" with a little silicone; if the problem is that the wheel's escaping the track, re-adjust the clamp's position on the glass first.

Thanks for all the information, guys. I am gonna finally get some time this week to take off the panel and take a look at it. So it is probably not the regulator then? A recent estimate I got for the regulator and labor was $220.
