I know this is a stupid question, sorry.

So to replace (take out the old main seal) do I unbolt the two bolts on the sides of the seal and does that bottom half loosen every thing up for removal? Thanks.
 
Those two bolts you speak of hold the rear main bearing cap to the block, I' didn't loosen them when I replaced the main seal in my 40. I prised out the old main seal and slid the new one in place(apply a light coat of motor oil to the surface of the new main seal, it'll slide in much easier).
