I have removed the rear driveshaft and released the retaining straps for my gas tank on my 1980 fj40. What else do i need to release in order to get the tank out so I can swap it.... Is there access from above the way there is in the earlier models? Any help would be appreciated

I havent pulled the tank on my 82 fj40 but there is an access cover on the rear floor, kinda behind the seat(in middle)
But(and I might be wrong) you need to pull(or drop) the rear axle to get the tank out and the new one in.

Chaka, I've done this same thing on my 79 FJ40, it's not fun, once everything is detatched from the tank you have to work it around a bit and you'll eventually be able get it out from the bottom. There is no access from the top on the 79 and newer 40's, except for the small hole to access the fuel sending unit.

gus,

is that access opposite the fuel door on the inside of side?
