An even better option for the ply would be true marine grade like Okoume or similar. It's really good quality stuff, and you can generally use a thinner ply for a given application because of its strength.

I throw this out there. I had put drawers out of my 100 and then loaded them up with all the "stuff" and the added weight was noticeable
in feel and my gas mileage. I guess aluminum would be $$$ and maybe that wouldn't even help. Love the idea of you doing though!

I'd be game possibly, depending on price, if FULL size drawers would be available with the rear seat removed and side access panels which would be accessed via rear side doors.
