Is this normal???
I'm putting the spider gears back in the rear differential after having the rear axles out to change the seals. The cylindrical spacer that goes on the pinion mate shaft between the spider gears seems very sloppy lengthwise on the shaft. This is the spacer that the axle shafts butt into if they were to move inward. The spacer is 1.75mm (0.070") shorter than the distance between the faces of the spider gears so it can slide back & forth on the shaft as the assembly rotates.
Is this intentionally loose to let oil get to the pinion mate shaft or is there supposed to be a washer/spacer to make up the difference?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
