rear diff fill plug nut is stripped??????? (1 Viewer)

I have tried everything from heat to vise grips and even pipe wrenches. This plug is torn up. Does anyone have a grand solution to getting this fill plug out? 23mm was the original size..... I call it round and torn up now.

Yup, the heat (then adequate cooling to shrink back) of welding alone would go a long way towards breaking it loose.

No welder? Then grind more flats in the bolt head, restoring a good surface by which to wrench from. Unless you want it looking rounded again, put the pipe wrench back in the tool box, btw.

No grinder? Then drill larger and larger pilot holes through the middle of the plug. Along with some heat after it's drilled, it could eventually allow for more shrinkage to again break the bond.

Take a large nut, hold it with needle nose vice grips, and weld it through the center hole to the original plug. Mig works the easiest for this, turn it UP!

I'm assuming you've tried the 23mm 6point socket and its stripped? Most of the sockets are 12 point, but an impact socket will be 6 point. It might be the cheapest starting point if you haven't already exhausted that option.
Wiley has it pretty well summed up......if you dont have a welder or grinder maybe a muffler shop can do the quick weld for cheap.

Sounds like the nut you have on there is beyond salvage. Weld as suggested above. Your replacement plug will be 24 mm (unless you get the recessed Allen head version). Get a 6-point socket so you don’t round of your next one.

Thanks everyone for the input. The mig and a new nut with needle nose was a dreamy idea. Thanks again. Now I can get to replacing the pinion seal and be able to refill the damn thing.

SOR has hex head plugs (Allen head) that are less prone to give trouble. At least I hope they are because I just went through this with my rig.

Drain Plugs, Magnetic, 10mm allen: 90341-18021, $2.17 at Toyota. $3.03 from $OR. Don't forget the gasket.
