Got r done!
Real learning experience - did have to call my Lexus mechanic friend to figure out how to loosen the e-brake. Once that was done, the old rotor slid right off. No 8mm bolts to push the rotor out needed.
I f'd up the the first try at rotor removal and stretched out the pin holding the front e-brake shoe. That's when the call was placed to my friend.
We used a vice and pliers to get the pin back in shape, as it was a special order item at local dealer, and then reassembled that part of the e-brake. Second side went much easier - read once I knew how to loosen the e-brake (I know Dan - you said I might have to back it off some - I just didn't know how!
but I do now) . Damn did I learn alot this afternoon. Buddy said he usually removed filter in brake fluid reservoir to drain at least the fluid in there and replace with new. He said kept cycling in some fresh fluid. Old fluid was pretty dark for supposedly being flushed and replaced with 30k service done 7k ago. Another dealer Hmmmm.....?
Old rotors were at 17mm, with 16mm being minimum spec. Don't know what dealer was thinking saying they were just going to turn them. Ploy to get the rotors off, fake turning them and calling to say they were at minimum after being turned and needed to be replaced in all likelyhood. Hmmmm.........
Anyway - DONE and a great learning experience. Thanks Dan and all! Much appreciated!!!
